On behalf of the Rotary Club of Surfers Sunrise, Ashleigh Symes laid a wreath at the ANZAC Dawn Service at Surfers Paradise. Just as the service finished the rain started to bucket down.
X-Ray Unit for Pentecost Island: Subject to confirmation that material will be onsite at Pentecost, the plan now is for the X-ray facility to be assembled in two stages. Stage One will involve a team of six travelling arriving on Pentecost on 13 May to check over the material and commence preliminary work such as erecting the floor joists on the footings, assembling the wall and roof trusses, placing the wall panels in order of installation and the like.
This preparatory work will be a bit like staring a jigsaw puzzle – find all the straight edges, separate the colours, complete the border and then work inwards.
Stage One is expected to last about 5 days or so and how much can be achieved in this time will determine how long Stage Two will take in July and how large that party will need to be.
If the material isn’t on site at Pentecost by 13 May then it’s back to the drawing board. [Hey! what happened to the good ol' Australian saying "She'll be right, mate"? Ed. ☺

"... at 18 years of age I was diagnosed with cancer. On October 13th, 2015, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of blood cancer. The doctors found one of the largest tumours ever discovered in the history of the Gold Coast University Hospital. It was 21cm in diameter and 10cm thick. It was like having an inflated football in my chest. A record I am weirdly proud of..." Elliott opened up his speech. He was 18 years old at the time, he didn't smoke, didn't drink, didn't do drugs, ate healthy food, super fit (he played soccer at State level). "The doctors called it 'bad luck'" he said.
There followed six years of non-stop therapy, treatment, surgery. Then he suffered a fungal rash which almost killed him. Then the right side of his heart stopped working, and both his lungs collapsed. "One of the ways to save me was forced oxygen." But, due to all the chemotherapy, Elliott found himself allergic to - oxygen. The only possible option was a double lung transplant. Then the waiting began...

Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
The best feature of having a hearing aid is to be able to turn it off. (Anonymous - for obvious reasons...)
Our compatriots seem to put much stock in slapping a tag on their ailments. Presumably, a complaint common enough to have a name implies that you are not alone and dangles options like internet chat rooms and community support groups for rhapsodic communal bellyaching.Lionel Shriver – ‘We need to talk about Kevin’
