President's Message

Paul Seymour

Greetings, fellow members, associate members and friends of Surfers Sunrise Rotary,

I'd like to highlight some major activities our club has undertaken in the Youth Services department, under Director of Youth Servcies Mitch Brown and his committee:
  • The club sponsored the participation of 3 teams from Trinity Lutheran to participate in the MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) program at Tweed Heads on 30 May 2026. Yes, they produce very realistic resolutions - click here to download the 2026 list
  • The Club sponsored Jesse Brennan (Yr 10) from Robina SHS to attend the 15 – 17 May RYPEN camp at Camp Drewe.
  • The Club has agreed to support Annabelle Worboys with her Rotary Youth Exchange application for 2027.
  • The Club has received a sponsorship request from Robina SHS for Madison McEwan (Yr 11) to attend the National Youth Science Forum at the University of Queensland 13 – 21 January 2027. The Club’s sponsorship obligation will be 50% of the cost and Madison’s family will cover the other 50% of the participation cost.
All those programs provide genuine, effective leadership development programs. Proud to have Surfers Sunrise Rotary supporting the next generation.

Paul Seymour,
President 2025-26

This Wednesday 10th June: Social Meeting
This coming Wednesday 10th June will be a social meeting at the Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club. Come along for a cuppa and/or breakfast. If the weather is nice we might sit outside, (otherwise on the ground floor, at the northern end). Lots of good banter and laughter, and - believe it - sometimes there are more club related matters discussed and solutions determined than on a formal meeting!

Last Wednesday: Cr Darren Taylor, Round 2
No, I don't want to give you the impression that this was akin to a boxing match. But the liveliness of the meeting was proof that the idea of having sort of a Town Hall meeting was good, quite refreshing actually, if one has an interest in how the city is governed. We had a swag of 'Questions on Notice', on seriously challenging topics such as Homelessness and people sleeping rough, to various "three R's" subjects (Roads, Rates, Rubbish), which Darren answered clearly and honestly. We mightn't be all happy with the answers. But, yes, in an ideal world, there would be unlimited funds, generated from thin air, without any overlap of jurisdiction between the three principal types of government. Perhaps next time, we should also invite the local State Government member to join us? Asking for a friend...

Thank you, Darren, for joining us again, we much appreciate it.

Cr Joe Wilkinson visited the wheelchairs shed
This was pure conincidence, but it looks like last Wednesday was "Councillor Day" at Surfers Sunrise Rotary and the wheelchair shed, our club's major international project: Cr Joe Wilkinson (Division 7) visited the volunteers in our wheelchair factory, whilst Cr Darren Taylor (Division 10) joined the Surfers Sunrise Rotary at the Surfers Paradise Surf Club (see above). Joe Wilkinson also brought a couple of bicycles along (by the looks of it, both in excellent conditions - ideal for the upcoming Big Bike Sale on 20th June! Thank you!

Pre-lunch drinks on arrival have been sponsored by our corporate member Kieser Bundall (Kane Chisholm) - thank you!

Bookings are now open - you MUST book - no walk-ins please. Bookings are open now. Click on this link https://www.trybooking.com/DMHNQ.

Surfers Sunrise Golf Day - set for 26/10/26

I asked my wife if she would still love me if I was fat and ugly.
“yes, I do.” Was not the answer I was looking for.
