The voting has been completed by Surfers Sunrise Rotary for regionalization, after consulting with the members present at the social meeting last Wednesday. Now to see what eventuates in the next few months!
The upstairs venue at the Surfers Surf Club is NOT available for us this coming Wednesday, as they have a function upstairs. I suggest that we still meet as a formal meeting downstairs, in the area to the rear, on the right side as you enter the club. I say this as nexxt week, on 8th November 2023, we need to hold a board meeting; this has already been postponed from October.

Originally, our newest member, Thomas Robinson, was scheduled to speak to introduce himself and tell us a little about himself, his passions and hobbies, his work. However, as we won't have any way to display any photos, we'll postpone his presentation for early in the new year. But there is a lot of club business to discuss, so looking forward to meeting you all.
One of my most memorable experiences in my 36 years in Rotary is my participation with my better half in a Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) to Washington State (Seattle) and British Columbia in 2019. I can thoroughly recommend it!
What is a Rotary Friendship Exchange? In a nutshell, a team of maximum 12 Rotarians (with or without partners) visit the destination country, get home hosted by fellow Rotarians, get introduced to the sights by locals rather than by tourist guides etc. In turn, our District hosts a team from there. You can add personal travel on either side of these dates. Even better, the Rotary Insurance will cover you and your partner for travel insurance for up to 16 additional days of personal travel.
Obviously, not only will you enjoy a personalised tour of the country, but as you have only minimal accommodation costs, the overall expense of such a trip is much lower. The outgoing RFE to Pennsylvania will visit from 17th - 30th September 2024, visiting District 7430, the South-Eastern part of the US state. Their team will come to us from 1st - 14th March 2024. You can add personal travel on either side of these dates. Even better, the Rotary Insurance will cover you and your partner for travel insurance for up to 16 additional days. Do you have a half day (or two) a week to spare? Or do you know somebody who would enjoy the fellowship of fellow volunteer workers at the shed, re-purposing discarded bicycles into wheelchairs? Well over 11,000 have been shipped so far, but the need is constant.
A number of formerly regular volunteers at the project shed have "retired", some due to ill health, some because they landed a job which prevents them from attending Wednesdays and/or Saturday mornings. The work is easy and not heavy. It can involve the dismantling of bikes, the cutting of plywood (using a template, called a "jig"), painting the wood and/or the frames, or assembling, checking and packing the finished product, just to name a few.
If you are interested, please contact Franz Huber or Larry Murray, or simply turn up on Wednesday and/or Saturday morning, from 07:30 am.
