Gidday to members, associates members of the Rotary Club of Surfers Sunrise and friends of Rotary,
We had a casual meeting last week which, as usual, was well attended. The conversations, discussions are priceless, much humour interspersed with some serious club business. Then, on Thursday afternoon, as is customary in the weeks when we have a casual meeting, a smaller but equally enthusiastic group convened at Benowa Tavern. Sometimes, an afternoon with a beer or a glass of wine is a better environment to come up with new ideas and/or clear up some unintended misunderstandings.
On Sunday I attended a meeting called by our wonderful Foundation Director, Elizabeth Celi. The meeting was convened to discuss District and Global Grants and how we could access either one or both to assist us in our projects, in particular wheelchair manufacture and shipping. It was a great meeting and a big thanks to Mario, a living legend in our club, for opening up his lovely home and equally lovely wine cellar to attendees. Thank you Elizabeth, Mario, Ross, Geoff and PE Paul for attending. A follow up meeting will be held in the coming weeks.
Our meeting this week will be at at our project shed. All members, associates and any one who would like to see our factory and what Geoff's band of legends contribute, is most welcome. Angus, 'the Onion King' Miller will be chef of note, has promised bacon and egg rolls, yum. See you there.
Remember - Do as you fear most and nothing changes if nothing changes.
Don't forget: the next meeting on 9th April will be held at the project shed in Arundel, NOT at the Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club.
Angus Miller has promised to crank up the Barbeque and cook us a hearty Bacon & Egg roll (and I understand that there will also be some "healthy" food). Don't miss this opportunity to connect with our hard working volunteers, slaving over a hot grinder, work bench, drop-saw or salvaging aluminium for recycling. The address: 175 Napper Road, Arundel (long driveway just below the Arundel Primary School, next to the Arundel Community Centre). See mud map below.
Last Wednesday's "social" meeting at the Surfers Paradise SLSC was attended by the majority of the "movers and shakers" of the club. As President Andy is fond of saying, there are "mini-committee meetings" among the attendees. And yes, it is also good for mental health: if you want to crow about your team's overwhelming success, or pour your heart out because they haven't won a game in weeks, you'll find a willing ear! ☺☺
It's still early days, and details will be provided in the appropriate time. But meanwhile, reserve the date of Sunday 6th July 2025 for our Changeover Luncheon, when President Andy Bell will hand the collar over to President Elect Paul Seymour.
Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
