“My logisticians are a humourless lot . . . they know if my campaign fails, they are the first ones I will slay.” – Alexander the Great
I reported two weeks ago that due to shipping delays, the planned erection timeline for the X-ray unit on Pentecost Island had been changed to a two phase roll-out, the first commencing on 12 May.
Well, as I’m writing this message, you can no doubt surmise that logistical delays continue to frustrate the finalisation of the project.
I pause to note this project has, to even get to this point, had to surmount considerable hurdles due to the intervention of wholly unforeseeable circumstances.
Three years ago no one could have conceived that moving forward there would be Covid 19, a worldwide lockdown, negative interest rates, a war in Ukraine, chocked supply chains, the emergence of 1970s level inflation and a 300 plus% increase in the cash rate.
Notwithstanding the challenges posed by these forces on the delivery of the Mauna Health Centre Project, Rotary is committed to getting the job done, and done well.
Consultations are taking place with stakeholders in Australia and Vanuatu about a timeline for the second half of this year.
Ross Augustine reports that the Club’s grant application to the “Your Stronger Communities Programme” has been successful. You’ll recall Ross prepared and submitted the grant application in the hope of getting a contribution towards the acquisition of a ute for use by the Club and the Project Shed.
Well done Ross and thanks to Hon Angie Bell M.P., member for Moncrieff, for her ongoing support.
See you Wednesday.
