Greetings, fellow members, associate members and friends of Surfers Sunrise Rotary,
It is good to be back on board after a rough spell following my right knee replacement and subsequent stomach infection, but now I'm all in the clear. Many thanks to PP Andy for standing in in my absence and all the well wishes. One really appreciates the Rotary family.
Last Saturday I took a visit to the wheelchair shed, one I encourage all new and existing members to do, noting and engaging with all volunteer members.
We have another 130 wheelchairs being made up to go to Sri Lanka
6-10 Wheelchairs are bound for Bali
We have a request from Circle of Life Burleigh for 40 wheelchairs, which will be supplied as soon as they are completed
We will be looking to members shortly to provide a working bee to prepare and pour a concrete slab near the front entrance, where the grinding of the bike frames takes place, to replace the grassed area before the rainy season starts
A reminder that there is a request for Rotarians to assist with drivers to pick up bicycles etc. If you are available, please contact Geoff Croad
A reminder that, on the weeks when we have a social meeting (as this week), on Thursday late afternoon some members meet at the Benowa Tavern. This is purely social; everyone is welcome.
Remember, don’t put off till tomorrow what can be done today.
Well, let's hope we'll never need the services of LifeFlight. But if we ever did: how good is it to know they are there! At this morning's meeting, Anna Caldwell (picture, with President Paul Seymour), is the ‘Community Engagement Lead’ for the Gold Coast and Brisbane. She outlined some astounding details about this Not-For-Profit organisation.
Established in 1979, LifeFlight (formerly CareFlight) has grown into the largest aero-medical service organisation in the southern hemisphere. 21 Helicopters, 4 fixed-wing aircraft, 8 bases from Cairns in the north to Archerfield in the south of Queensland. On the Gold Coast alone, in the last 12 months, they had 42 Arrival Missions. Disasters, Floods, Neo-natal care, Search & Rescue, Accidents of all sorts, and “inter-facility” hospital transfers – the entire spectrum. Their staff comprises not just Doctors, Paramedics and Pilots. There is a world-class, state of the art training organisation as well, equipped with a simulator... [I’d pay to go on one of these...Ed. ☺] They also do ‘First Minutes Matter’ training courses which can be tailored to the specific purpose.
LiftFlight is financed via a combination of a State Government service agreement, Community Support (donations, bequests etc), and ‘Profit for Purpose’ enterprises such as the above mentioned training facility.
There is MUCH more, so download Anna’s presentation from the Download Section on the right and have a look for yourself! There is also lots of information on their website: https://www.lifeflight.org.au/ or you can contact Anna on Anna.Caldwell@lifeflight.org.au.

Organised by PDG Lisa Hunt, it will be screened at the Event Cinemas in Coomera. There is a restaurant nearby, and after the movie, we may go to have dinner there in company with other Rotary members and friends. Download the flyer from the Download Section on the right.
Yes, I know that it's still over two months to go until Christmas, but the time to order the delicious Christmas cakes is... And they ARE delectable - traditional rich Rum and Brandy recipe, 50% fruit, not too sweet, moist... They are available packaged either in a cake tin (so it stays moist if you don't want to eat it all at once) - $25.00, as well as packaged in a carton - $22.00.
Mario Fairlie has alreadyplaced a bulk order, based on last year's sales, so, first come, first served. Contact Mario directly. Payment can be made in either cash or card (via Treasurer Charles Thomasson) Net proceeds go towards The Rotary Foundation.
