A successful board meeting last week with plenty of input from all present. We need more members to complete the survey monkey to vote for Rotarian of the Year. At the time of publishing there has only been 13 votes [e.g. less than 40%! Ed].
Ross Augustine has applied for a grant to assist with the Lutzy Award which is usually in early August. He is also applying for a District Grant for some fans at the shed. I have contacted Benowa State High School and Keebra Park High School explaining to them all of the Rotary youth events that Rotary has and have offered to a presentation at the Schools
All awardees from last year, please bring back the trophies so that they can be engraved for next year. I have informed Gerald East of the winners for this year so that he can organise the engraving.

It's time to elect this Rotary year's Rotarian of the Year. As the vote is only open to active members, the link cannot be published. Just a reminder: voting closes this Thursday, 30th May. Note: the vote is anonymous, so I don't know who has and who hasn't. If you didn't receive the email, please call or text me.

Ho-hum... 5 of our wheelchairs, parked against a wall... So what?
Well, not so fast: Recently, incoming Wheelchair Trust Chairman Geoff Croad received a photo from Pastor Ken Wigglesworth from the Spirit of Life Church, of 5 of our wheelchairs they had delivered to the Mahatma Ghandi Memorial Clinic in Zambia - back in May 2009, i.e. 15 years ago. And they are still very much in use! At that time, 64 of them were despatched, shortly to be followed by another 140! (see snippet of our club bulletin of 13/05/2009). Good to receive some feedback!
Are you, or do you know a proverbial "STEM nerd", currently in Year 11? (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
Surfers Sunrise Rotary will sponsor 50% ($1,495.00) of the $2,990.00 fee to attend the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) for one approved applicant. Note: the selection process is quite competitive - they will only accept serious STEM fans. For more information click on this link:
Mark it in your diary now:Sunday, 16th June 2024. As some "key members" expect to be absent during the usual period around the end of the Rotary year, this year's Changeover Luncheon will be held early. It will be held at the same venue s last year's (and wasn't that a hugely successful event!): the Braeside Estate on Gooding Drive. Watch this space for final details, including a booking site to be set up.
Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
The umbrella originally was going to be just called brella. But, uhmmm... the inventor wasn’t a very fluent speaker.
Thanks to the explosion of social media fuelling echo chambers where people only expose themselves to singular thought processes that they already agree with, we have regressed as a world back thousands of years to the days when we existed in tribes that rarely met other tribes. Author unknown
