Mario Fairlie was Chairman. We had apologies from Gerald East, Paul Seymour, Ray Higgs, Charles Thomasson, Al Sirovs and Mitch Brown (the latter two on the way to Vanuatu with 5 more, see photo right, by Al Sirovs).President Doug Lipp welcomed all members and guests Aaron Jackson (guest and fellow guest speaker with Evan Mita – see separate article above) and Andre Booyzen (guest of Franz Huber). Doug reminded members of the upcoming Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on 9th August (and others) and foreshadowed a visit on 26th July by the organiser of ‘Windeward Bound’, a tall sailing ship which comes into Southport early next month, and on 4th October we’ll be honoured by the visit of District Governor Dave Harmon and his charming wife Robyn (see Events list on left)
Mario Fairlie briefly outlined the mission of the team that had just left for Vanuatu to re-erect the X-Ray Unit on Pentecost Island. This was followed by the presentation of our guest speakers Evan Mita and Aaron Jackson on the organisation they are both working with, Mission Australia.
Graeme Isaacson announced that he had concluded a special deal with the Surf Club to cater at the presentation of the Lutzy Award in a fortnight – see above, including Trybooking link.
Darrell Brown announced that he and Kerrie had become grandparents again! Congratulations! (And, as is tradition, Darrell made a donation of $100 to the Wheelchair Trust).
