President Andy Bell welcomed all members, Honorary Queenslander Ross Augustine (RC of Frankston Sunrise), our YE Student Gigi van Ligtenberg and our guest speaker, Inspector Bruce Kuhn from the Gold Coast Police - Southern Patrol Group. Andy reminded us of the Changeover Luncheon on the 17th June; an on-site inspection of the new Kurrawa Surf Club was done with PE Jo Gorman ("it is fantastic!") and Jo wholeheartedly agreed!. Geoff Croad is looking for another couple of volunteers to help at the RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) event held at All Saints Anglican School on 20th June, starting at 08:50 am. (Note, we'll have a social breakfast on that day). It is easy work - essentially just involves of guiding a class of students from one location to the next. Morning tea and lunch are provided.

Youth Service Director Tania Laird enthused on the recently held RYPEN camp at Bornhoffen. She also acknowledged the club's sponsorship of Lucy Thorburn, last year's winner of the Lutzy Award, to go to the USA for a Youth Exchange year. District Youth Exchange Chair Chris Thurtell was in full agreement - a wonderful progression for Lucy from RYPEN awardee to winning the Lutzy Award to going on a YE Exchange! Incidentally, worth mentioning: Kathy Smith, who is in charge of the RYPEN camp, herself has 6 foster children! Our visitor and Honorary Queenslander, Ross Augustine, has a report from his granddaughter Alyssa Lott in the USA. Alissa has recently changed host families. In a nutshell: she is well and is having a ball!Ian Mayberry, freshly returned from his jaunt all over Europe rubbing shoulders with the mighty and fast drivers, brings regards from our former YE Student from Italy, Martina Missarelli. (picture right). Ian caught up with her and her family when visiting a car race held nearby. Mario Fairlie expressed his deep gratitude to all members for the support he received when Rae's ashes were spread at Rainbow Bay the previous weekend. Secretary Mark Twyford has a mild panic: the new badges have gone walk-about... anyone know where they are? Franz Huber brought the upcoming Lutzy Award (11/07/18) and Peace Fellowship (18/07/18 - dinner meeting) events to members' attention: The Lutzy Award to be held at the Surfers Paradise SLSC, usual breakfast meeting on Wednesday 11th July 2018. Details of the Peace Fellowship awardees to be advised, but reserve the date of 18th July for an evening in your diary.
