Allegedly true stories: A friend of mine traveled on the Ghan from Adelaide via Alice Springs to Darwin. Between the Alice and Katherine, the first engine broke down. The driver continued at half-power, but then the other engine failed and the train came to a standstill. Over the intercom, passengers heard the following: “People, afraid our engines have spat the dummy. We're n a bit of a pickle 'ere... I've good news and bad news. The bad news is that both engines have failed and we will be stuck 'ere for a while. The good news is that you decided to take the train instead of an airplane.”
