They say a picture is worth a thousand words...  Well, here you are!  But there is more!  Check below, and in the download section on the right.

Last Wednesday, 'The Lutzy' was presented to 15 year old Jessica Webber, selected for her untiring efforts in her Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). Rather than a trophy, the combined committees of the Surfers Paradise SLSC and the Surfers Sunrise Rotary Club decided on a more practical "trophy": A paddle board, perfectly suitable not just for, well, paddling, but for rescue work.

Our committee, primarily comprised of Ray Higgs and (last year's) Youth Service Director Chris Thurtell, cooperated with the selection committee of the SLSC club.  The aim was to find a recipient worthy of the memory of Keith Lutz, a Charter Member of our club, who passed away some three years ago.  Keith Lutz was not only a very active Rotarian, Paul Harris Fellow and one of the major contributors to the success of our Wheelchairs project, but equally was one of the greats at Surfers Paradise SLSC.  The award recognizes not just Keith's contribution to both the local as well as the international community, but equally recognizes the skills and dedication of a member of the young generation in the SLSC movement following in his footsteps.

In the download section, you find a pictorial of last week's presentation, including a transcript of Jessica's acceptance speech and a copy of a poem in honour of Keith Lutz your Editor wrote at the time of his passing away, which I had the pleasure of reciting at last week's meeting.  It's in the Download section on the right hand side.
