I had my 1st COVID shot this morning, and assuming I am at the meeting on Wednesday it all went well! There were a lot of people at the Albert Waterways Community Centre but the process was very efficient and I was in and out in under 30 mins including the compulsory 15 minutes sit downtime after I was vaccinated. It is good to see the Vaccine Rollout finally gathering some momentum.
The Gold Coast Business Expo is on Thursday June 24 at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium. Surfers Sunrise will again be helping with the ‘Bump-in’ and ‘Bump-out’ as well as will assisting with the Car Parking and having a Stand. Please get involved if you can as it is a great way to promote Rotary and Surfers Sunrise. Darrell Brown and Angus Miller will be calling for more helpers – 2 or 3 hours is all we ask.
This Sunday sees the first ‘Repair Café’ event at the Project Shed from 10am-1pm. The Gold Coast Tool Library runs these Repair Cafes - free events where volunteer menders and fixers invite the community to bring along their broken household items for repair. And another reminder that Sunday 4th July is the Surfers Sunrise Winter Lunch and Changeover. This social lunch will be at Links Hope Island Golf Club. It’s a great venue and we look forward to seeing you all there for an afternoon of socialising.

Our Repair Shop is a free event where our volunteer menders and fixers invite the community to bring along their broken household items for repair. The owner of the item is encouraged to join in and together we endeavour to make a repair. This has many benefits including encouraging social connections in the community, as well as transferring the skills and knowledge of repair, which can often be an intergenerational sharing as frequently it is the older generation who has the experience in repairing items.
We will also have an extensive range of refurbished bicycles for sale.
We will also trial a Tool Library. For example: Need a drill for a weekend? We'll have a licensed electrician who volunteers and he is the only repairer who touches 240V items.
Why not drop by at the Project Shed (see map) on Sunday 13th June, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm?

June is Rotary International's 'Fellowship Month'. There are dozens of different Fellowships, from Yachting to History to Jazz to Quilting. Quilting? Yes, quilting. Boring? Well, how about Magicians? Wine? Bird Watching? Sorry my friend, not those... But there is nothing to stop you from forming a new Fellowship if you want to! Find details at the link below.

In short: we'll have a dedicated website for the Wheelchair Trust, the Project Shed, the volunteers, seeking donations, and all the stuff we do.
We are looking for photos relating to our Wheelchairs, various buildings we put up over the years etc etc. If you have any, please upload them directly to a shared Google Drive KJ has set up for this: Click here - it's dead easy - simply drag the photos from your folder into the 'Drop files here' field.
