Gidday Members of Surfers Sunrise, fellow Rotarians and friends of Rotary,
Another week has passed and on a personal note I’m getting my health back to normal. Slower than I had hoped but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Our Guest Speaker last week, Kal Glanznig was exceptional, certainly inspirational. A true fighter for a cleaner, better environment and someone who is making a difference in our lives. Young people like Kal give old folks like me hope. We have so many dishonest, corrupt people pushing to destroy the environment under the guise of saving it just so they can feather their own nests. True hero’s like Kai and their causes tend to get get overlooked. We cant allow that to happen.
My thanks to Graeme Isaacson who is working diligently to put together our Christmas Breakfast on the 18 December. Franz will keep you posted.
Heard one of the two contenders running to be President of the USA make a statement the other day that resonated with me. They said, ‘You cant be President of the USA unless you love Americans.’ I actually believe this to be true and the same goes for being President of a Rotary Club, you have to love Rotarians.
Have you ever met a person that exudes so much energy that, by comparison, you feel like a couch potato, irrespective of whether you aim to keep reasonably fit and switched-on? Well, Kal Glanznig is one of these people…
Sutherland Shire (Sydney) awarded him the Young Australian of the Year in 2020, and in 2023 Environmental Citizen of the Year. Before that, whilst in High School, he raised $100,000 to put solar panels on his High School, and and … There is more, much more, but I better start telling you what Kal’s visit to Surfers Sunrise was all about:
Ocean pollution. For example: Roughly in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. you will find a floating “island” of discarded rubbish, predominantly plastic (as in empty bottles, shopping bags, packaging), two times the size of New South Wales. No, no kidding; read that again. And when you think that a plastic bottle takes 450 years (e.g. until the year 2674) to bio-degrade in the ocean, be assured that the problem will not go away by itself. The only solution is education – world wide, at all levels.
Methinks that Kal has set himself a “Moon Shot” project. But then, if as little as 30 years ago, you had predicted that by 2024 practically anyone, anywhere in the world, can talk free of charge to anyone else, anywhere else in the world… what would you have been called? Kal, “I dips me lid”, and we all wish you every success in your endeavours.

This year's Surfers Sunrise Golf Day has just concluded. With well over 90 players, a record (and, I dare say, most likely also a record fundraising effort). Photo is of the winning Corporate Team: Astill Cronin Lawyers. Golf Day organiserCharles Thomasson (second from left) introduces Glenn Screech, Ashley Cronin, Glenn O'Kearney and Ethan Ahrens. The same team also won the overall competition. Photo Album is now uploaded - see segment on the right. Full report in next week's bulletin.
Yes, only 7 weeks to go! Graeme Isaacson and Adrian Crowe are organising this year's Christmas Breakfast. The date decided on is Wednesday, 18th December. Watch this space for updates.
Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
But somebody WAS watching and thought I had a seizure, so they called an ambulance....
It is becoming more and more obvious that it is not starvation, not microbes, not cancer, but man himself who is mankind’s greatest danger, for the simple reason that there is no adequate protection against psychic epidemics, which are infinitely more devastating than the worst of natural catastrophes.Carl Jung, Swiss Philosopher (1875-1961) 'The Undiscovered Self'
A wizard asked me to proof read one of his scrolls last week. Well, actually, it was more like a spell check.
