Greetings, fellow members, associate members and friends of Surfers Sunrise Rotary,
Looking forward to Christine O'Connor's talk this week. Remember, it's at the TRYP Hotel, not at the Surf Club.
Here are some points of interest and items from the recent board meeting you ought to know:
The wheelchair shed is now opening on Monday mornings as well as Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wheelchair Trust Chairman Geoff Croad advises that a 20' container has arrived at the shed. It will be loaded with wheelchairs to be sent to Sri Lanka, with support from the Sri Lankan community in Sydney.
T-Shirts instead of Name Badges: instead of the traditional name badges, we'll have new T-Shirts with the name embroidered, the same as we recently arranged for our Associate Members at the wheelchair shed (see photo right, with one of our most senior Associate Members, Don Ferguson, modelling). The original budget allocation will cover to purchase one shirt for each member, additional ones can be purchased. Franz will circulate an order form where you can indicate your size and quantity.
Club meeting venue: whilst renovations are ongoing at the Surf Club, and thus we cannot get exclusive access to the upstairs venue for our formal meetings, we'll continue to meet at the TRYP Hotel. Once renovations have been completed, and (hopefully) exclusive access is again available, we'll permanently return to the Surf Club
Our new member Tulip Penney has agreed to take on the Public Relations portfolio, with specific aim to obtain more media exposure. The recent exposure on Channel 9 'A Current Affair' has certainly produces some excellent results. Thank you, Tulip!
President Elect 2026-27: Yes, it's still 20 months away, but now is the time to throw your hat into the ring! A President Elect needs to be appointed at the upcoming AGM in December.
Remember, don’t put off till tomorrow what can be done today.
Note: the meeting will be at the TRYP Hotel, 59 Meron Street, Southport, NOT at the Surf Club.
Christine recently transferred from another Rotary Club to join Surfers Sunrise. Officially termed 'Rotarian behind the Badge', she will include the major part of her presentation under the subject of "my passion". Which one? "There are several", she said. You'll just have to wait! Oh, by the way: Christine is a Psychologist. So be prepared!

The Travellers, directed by Bruce Beresford, features iconic Australian actor Brian Brown. All proceeds are donated in support of Polio Plus - one of the major Rotary Foundation initiatives. Organised by PDG Lisa Hunt, it will be screened at the Event Cinemas in Coomera. There is a restaurant nearby, and after the movie, we may go to have dinner there in company with other Rotary members and friends. Download the flyer from the Download Section on the right.
Yes, I know that it's still over two months to go until Christmas, but the time to order the delicious Christmas cakes is... And they ARE delectable - traditional rich Rum and Brandy recipe, 50% fruit, not too sweet, moist... They are available packaged either in a cake tin (so it stays moist if you don't want to eat it all at once) - $25.00, as well as packaged in a carton - $22.00.
Mario Fairlie has alreadyplaced a bulk order, based on last year's sales, so, first come, first served. Contact Mario directly. Payment can be made in either cash or card (via Treasurer Charles Thomasson) Net proceeds go towards The Rotary Foundation.
Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
