Gidday members of Surfers Sunrise Rotary, associates and friends of Rotary,
Sorry to disappoint but you have to put up with me again. President Paul is still not 100% but certainly on the improve and will hopefully be on deck next week.
As usual our biweekly social meeting was well attended on Wednesday morning, we had to slum it however and were required to sit on the upstairs balcony of the Surfers Paradise Surf Club overlooking one of the best beaches in the world with not a cloud in the sky and a temperature of around 24 degrees. Damn tough being a member of Surfers Sunrise.
A bike sale was held at our factory on Saturday and a number of refurbished bicycles were sold with the money going to our Projects Account, not sure how much we made as I don’t have the exact figures but I believe about $600. Well done to all concerned.
I've spoken before about one of our outstanding Corporate members, Kieser Bundall. Kane Chisholm, a Director of Kieser, decided to put on an ‘open day’ at their facility and offered to put on a Sausage Sizzle to compliment the day. Our requirement was to provide the equipment and turn up to cook the sausages and promote Surfers Sunrise Rotary. The sausages were not sold but a donation was encouraged. The weather on Saturday was not great, a bit windy and cool, however we still managed to make about $600 in donations. An excellent result. A huge thank you to Kane and his team. In a very short time they have shown themselves to be superb members.
I get in trouble with the editor of this Bulletin; he says, as a whole, I enthuse too much about people in our Club and Rotary[Moi? Je ne suis que le messager! Ed 😊]. Well I am going to get into more trouble. I need to talk about our Fund Raising Director, Ross Augustine and the unheralded contribution of hard work and time he puts into our Club. Let me take Saturday as an example. Ross arranged for the pick up of the BBQ from the shed, he attended Kaiser’s premises 0700 to help set up the BBQ, he then went up to our factory to ensure the ‘bike sale’ was going to plan, he then cooked sausages at the BBQ from 1.00 till 4.00 then took the equipment back up the shed. Monday he taking left over sausages and bread to St Johns Crisis Centre. I know many of our members put in huge efforts but I this what Ross did this weekend went above and beyond. [Hear hear!]
This week we have our Club Assembly, one of the most important meeting of the year. A range of issues need to be presented, discussed and either agreed on or set aside.
Remember, nothing changes if nothing changes and ‘Do as you fear most’.
To ensure the continued smooth running of our club and to receive feedback from the membership, club assemblies are essential. They are designed to discuss important items that need to be considered and debated among the membership in relation to the individual programs we run, and decisions that need to be taken that should not be the board's decision alone. Your participation and input is very important.
As will be the case until further notice, our fortnightly 'formal' meetings are held at the TRYP by Wyndham Hotel, 59 Meron Street, Southport, NOT at the Surf Club.
Sometimes we receive bikes at the shed that are simply too good to be stripped down for wheelchair components, including some bikes we received from the Police (unclaimed stolen goods). So our volunteers lovingly restore them so they can be sold. All proceeds go to purchasing materials and consumables necessary for wheelchair production.
Over 80 bikes went on sale with kid’s bikes from $2, Road bikes from $10, men’s bikes from $30, plus a large number of project bikes all with minor problems for the fixer upper. Photo: our member Iain Campbell with one of our regular volunteers, Nev Tate, collecting the money.
On Saturday, our corporate member Kieser Bundall opened their clinic to the public and invited our club to run a sausage sizzle out front (yes, they even supplied the sausages! Here is the first shift shortly after firing up, with Angus Miller (chief sizzler), Rock O'Keefe with Min, an Exchange Student from Korea helping, and Emma, one of the Exercise Scientists from Kieser. Good on ya, Kieser!
Our annual Golf Day will be held at the Surfers Paradise Golf Club on Fairway Drive, Clear Island Waters 4217. Download the brochure (Download Files on the right). We need players, Raffle Prizes, helpers on the day. We need players (both corporate and individual), raffle prizes, helpers on the day.
Duty Roster - note: subject to change - please check every week. Note: Fellowship duty also is expected to be at the Project Shed on the Saturday following the meeting
