President's Message

Gidday Surfers Sunrise Members, Associates and friends of Rotary,

Well it’s been a bit of a ‘ordinary week’. As I reported last week Robby and I were in Melbourne to arrange and attend the funeral of Robby's brother. A small but meaningful affair, just the immediate family sitting around the casket telling stories and drinking wine. No pomp, no ceremony.

I understand our casual meeting last week was up to its usual excellent standard and ‘drinks’ on Thursday evening was well attended. Sad to say I am very disappointed in the response and bookings to the Sportsman's Lunch which will be held at Gold Coast Golf Club on Friday of this week. [Note: the Trybooking site has been extended until tonight midnight, so you can still book. See article below or click here. Ed.[

On a brighter note PE Paul has locked in the venue for the Changeover. I know the venue quite well and I’m sure it will be an excellent event.

We have in our Club a large number of exceptional human beings who never fail to astound me with their commitment to Rotary and fellow members of our great club. It is going to be a difficult job choosing the recipients of the individual awards at the aforementioned Changeover. In my humble opinion everyone of them deserves recognition..

Remember - nothing changes if nothing changes and do as you fear most.

Stories
This Wednesday 18th June: Trent Belling - Elections 2025
Our member Trent Belling is a prominent member of the Queensland LNP. Whilst Rotary is certainly not meant to be political, the recent split (and re-unification) of the Coalition at the federal level and the subsequent "what now?" would be of general interest to everyone, irrespective of whether you are active in politics or not. Yes, you are permitted to ask questions!

New Sandblaster has just arrived!
Our Wheelchair Trust Chairman Geoff Croad certainly didn't hang around for long after the board approved the purchase of a new Sandblaster for our Wheelchair Project team. It just has arrived last Saturday. This will make the stripping of old paint and rust from bicycle frames so much easier and more efficient!

Club Changeover Luncheon - Sunday 6th July

Our annual Changeover Luncheon is one of our major events of the year, where the previous Rotary year's President, Andy Bell, will hand over the President's collar to incoming President Paul Seymour and awards are handed out. Graeme Isaacson organised the venue for this year's event: it be held at the TRYP by Windham Hotel in Southport. He has wrangled a special deal, which includes a two-course (Main Course and Dessert) and welcome drinks on arrival. And, in a time when prices seem to go through the roof, the price is lower than last year's event!

You need to book: click on this link: https://www.trybooking.com/DCNTT  or scan the QR Code.
