The month of July in Rotary is designated 'Leadership Month'. I sincerely like to thank all members who have taken a position on the new board. I do not anticipate that there will be major changes to activities and events for the year – just an initiative to “get to know” our members better. Remember True leaders don’t create followers, they create new leaders.
We held a meeting at the shed on Saturday morning to organise the supply for wheelchair components from our overseas suppliers. We decided that the order be placed, with a deposit paid.
Geoff Croad has organised “Wheelchairs for Kids”, the hugely successful organisation sponsored by the Rotary Club of Scarborough in WA, to send one of their completed wheelchairs so that we can assess whether it is feasible to produce this type of chair at the shed.
The delegation to Pentecost Island to erect the X-Ray Unit will leave on 12th July, so I wish them save travels and no problems with construction.
Ross Augustine has been applying for grants: One from The Helensvale Bowls Club Community Fund and one from Australia Post. The final outcomes will l not be known until early August.
At the last board meeting, it was decided that there will not be any meeting fee charged this year, but we will still draw a lucky door prize.
Don’t forget that next week's meeting, 12th July 2023, will be a formal meeting. This was necessary so that the dates of formal meetings tied in with the Lutzy Award presentations on the 9th August 2023

As has now become a tradition, our new President Doug Lipp will use the first meeting of the year to outline his vision and his plans on how to get there in the upcoming 12 months. This is not all one way! Members are most welcome to provide (productive and constructive) input, discuss, even debate...
Ross Augustine and yours truly attended an interesting meeting, organised by "our" federal MP, Angie Bell. Representatives from some 14 charitable organisations on the Gold Coast, (including two Rotary Clubs - Broadbeach and Surfers Sunrise). Angie organised Senator Dean Smith to come over from WA. He holds several major positions, including Shadow Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, which includes responsibility for Charities. This was not a talk fest, but all directed towards listening. Thank you for putting this together, Angie!
