President's Message

I trust you are all having a pleasant and relaxed Easter, hopefully you have had your fill of Chocolate and hot-cross buns.

My Easter started very badly. The Mighty Storm decided that they were only going to play for one half of football, as a result gave up a lead of 16 -2 at half time to allow the Warriors to score 40 (yes 40) unanswered points in the second half. I’m still trying to get over it. On the flip side Carlton beat North Melbourne giving us two wins in a row ensuring we won’t be on the bottom of the ladder for at least a couple of weeks. [This might be a good opportunity for me to remind all fellow Rotarians: should you feel the need to offload some of your emotions, it’s quite ok to call fellow members to seek some succour – or even to invite them to a celebratory "my cup runneth over" drink if your team does win... 😊 Ed.]

The casual meeting last week, as usual, was very well attended. A special treat for us all was the visit of Shova Kamari Poudel, PE of the Rotary Club of Balaju, Nepal.  Shova was accompanied by her sister in law Prasanna.(who has lived on the Gold Coast for 10 years). They are lovely ladies and were very interested in our wheelchair project. After the meeting, our hard working and irreplaceable Director of Service Projects Geoff Croad took our visitors to our ‘wheelchair factory’ and discussed with them the possibility of the Rotary Club of Balaju becoming involved with the Wheelchair Project. I am sure the door has been opened for further conversations. Great work Geoff.

Looking forward to our formal meeting this week. Our guest speaker is Chloe Chan who is going to talk about her adventures at the National Youth Science Forum.

Remember - Nothing changes if nothing changes and do as you fear most.

Inspirations - well, sort of... 230425
The problem is not that people are uneducated. The problem is that they are educated just enough to believe what they have been taught. And not educated enough to question what they have been taught.

Then out spake brave Horatius, the
Captain of the Gate, ‘To every man
Upon this earth’
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his Gods?
