President's Message

Greetings to all members, associate members of Surfers Sunrise and friends of Rotary,

Another week passed - what’s that old song? Yes, ‘Another day older and deeper in debt” [One presumes you refer to he song '16 Tons'? That's alright then, Mr President, but strictly no politics in Rotary! ☺ Ed.]We had another excellent ‘Casual Meeting’ last Wednesday morning. Good attendance and lots of work done as well as fellowship.

Doug Lipp is working hard towards the ‘Sportsman’s Lunch’ and, in conjunction with our Fund Raising Director Ross Augustine, will convene a committee to ensure we get plenty of numbers and the day is success.

This Wednesday our meeting is held at the PCYC. Their staff are putting on a breakfast for our members. At the meeting we will be officially handing over the Gym equipment we were able to donate thanks to the money we raised at our last Golf Day and a grant from The Rotary Foundation,

I'll have an interesting day on Tuesday, having a Gastroscopy and a Colonoscopy. Fun, I think not. However if the pictures turn out well I will incorporate them in next weeks Presidents Message. (Ha ha)

Oh, don’t forget to register for the District Conference, I believe a fair number ore going to all sessions as well as the Dinner on Saturday night. Look forward to Wednesday at PCYC. Remember - nothing changes if nothing changes and do as you fear most.

This Wednesday 26/02/25: Meeting at the PCYC
We'll have a meeting with a difference this week at the

Police Citizen's Youth Club
180 Monaco Street
Broadbeach Waters  QLD 4218

Usual time, 07:00 am.  The PCYC will put up a bacon & egg roll bar-be-que for us. The occasion? In 2024, our club sponsored the purchase of Gym equipment for the PCYC. This will be our "official" hand-over, on site at the PCYC Gold Coast. See you there!

Members! Would you please wear your Rotary T-Shirts.
We would like to take a group photo for our Website and Facebook pages. Thank you.
Bikes, bikes, bikes!
Bikes, bikes, bikes! Recently, our untiring volunteers Bob Heffernan and Brendan Aspery filled up our tandem-trailer to the rim with bikes they collected from one of the Hi-Rise buildings up Harbour Town way. No flies on ya, Bob and Brendan! BTW, Bob, love the "True Blue Aussie" blue outfit! But aren't you meant to wear worn out RM Williams boots to go with it? 😀
District Conference keynote speaker: Peter Gash
Peter Gash OAM is the Managing Director of Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort and Seair Pacific. That job undoubtedly wouldn't leave him much spare time, but...

Peter's main motivation is Education and the Environment. Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort operates on a 'Four E's' Philosophy: To look after our Environment we need to be EfficientEconomically Sustainable and able to Educate Effectively. Hear him speak at the District Conference, held at the Sharks on the last weekend in March.

Inspirations - well, sort of... 160225
Went to the Gastroenterologist the other day. As I explained my problems, pains and tribulations, the doctor just uhmmed and ahmmed, but would not come up with any suggestions or a diagnosis. Eventually, I couldn't stand it anymore and asked him "What's your gut feeling, Doctor??" [Only the scientifically inclined will get this. Ed.]
