President's Message
Paul Seymour

Greetings,

It was good to see a good turnout last week, including our Honorary Member Barry Lea. Our guest speaker Paul Hopgood kept us well entertained on a different angle on divorce.

At last we have some movement, although slow, on moving forward with our Rotary projects. I ask all Rotarians to get behind these projects as they are essential to both fund raisers and fellowship.

Please pass any ideas for the GSE entertainment menu through to Simon Brook, especially anyone with a contact for a boat for an afternoon cruise for our visitors.

Regards

Yours in Rotary
Paul Seymour
Stories
Last week was a social meeting at The Shed

Last week's meeting was held at The Shed, where our wheelchairs are made.  It was a "pure" social meeting, no presentations or speeches, not even a Sergeant's session!

Terry O'Shea, with Des La Rance capably assisting, cooked us a sumptuous breakfast of very traditional, bar-be-que'ed Bacon & Eggs, Sausages, Baked Beans, toast (made on the Bar-be-que), real coffee and fruit juice.  Hey, they even had table cloths, and real plates and cutlery (provided by Terry - and I guess also washed up by Terry... ☺).

And, very much worth mentioning:  Terry O'Shea donated the food and drinks, so this became a good fundraiser as well!

Thank you Terry. Well done!
Keith Lutz Award now in its final stages
This Wednesday, Youth Director Chris Thurtell will outline details of the discussions he and Ray Higgs had with David Orchard of the Southport/Main Beach SLSC in relation to the Keith Lutz Award, in memory of our Charter Member, Wheelchair driving force and Surf Life Saver extraordinaire.

Details will be published in next week's bulletin.

OUR ROTARY SUCCESS WITH THE POLIO PLUS CAMPAIGN
Because of Rotarian support, more than four million children who might have been polio victims are walking and playing normally. Since 1985, through Rotary’s efforts, and those of its partners around the world, more than two billion children have received polio vaccines and have been protected. There are currently three countries that are endemic: Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We must not stop our efforts until we give the children a Polio Free world!
THANK YOU FOR HAVING SUPPORTED THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AND ITS EFFORT IN ERADICATING POLIO FROM OUR PLANET.
New sign at the tip works
Wheelchair guru Des La Rance forwarded me this picture from the Gold Coast City Council tip, where recently a sign was put up, asking people to leave their old bicycles there.  Without doubt, it produces results! We even got a lawnmower...  convert it to a motorized wheelchair?
