Giddy Rotary Club of Surfers Sunrise, fellow Rotarians, Associates and friends of Rotary.
Another terrific roll up for our casual meeting last Wednesday. The dynamic is interesting to observe. There are a number of mini meetings occurring simultaneously so people are constantly changing seats however it is done without any pre-planning and with a minimum of fuss. A lot of important decisions are made at our casual meetings.
Like everyone else in SE Queensland we are waiting with some measure of apprehension for cyclone Alfred to make landfall. Neither my wife Robby nor I have experienced a cyclone before. It’s actually quite stressful. I guess it’s the unknown and the lead up is so long. A side issue to Alfred is my pool. Any of you who know me or have spoken with me in the past 5 months will know that my pool has caused me a disproportionate amount of aggravation, not to mention money. Well, the garden bed behind the pool loves to wash into the pool when we have heavy rain which we did in October/ November last year and my pool resembled a tributary of the Yarra River. After spending the equivalent of a small European Country's defence budget [Lichtenstein? Monaco? San Marino? Only being facetious; they all have Zero ☺. Ed.], it finally came good on Tuesday. Drinks were had and a lot of back slapping took place. Guess what , as of this morning it is back to being a Yarra tributary.. Bugger.
Please know that I am thinking of all who live in SE QLD. Be safe, don’t go out and sticky-beak the roughness of the ocean or the flooding or the fast flowing of the rivers and creeks. Batten down the hatches and stay indoors where it’s safe.
Looking forward to seeing all who can get to our next formal meeting on Wednesday morning. Angie Bell, MP for Moncrieff (e.g. Surfers Paradise) is our speaker. Angie is a fellow Rotarian and is always an eloquent and interesting speaker.
Remember - Do as you fear most and nothing changes if nothing changes.
Our local Federal Parliament member (Moncrieff goes from Main Beach to Mermaid Waters and west to Highland Park) will answer all your questions that may keep you awake at night in the run-up to the upcoming elections. Angie has been instrumental to our obtaining several recent government grants in support of our Wheelchair Trust projects.
Some claim it's because of Angus Miller's secret method of chopping the onions, some think it's because of the secret recipe of our sausages. Some even claim it's because the good-looking Rotarians that are sizzling, serving and taking our client's money... But they keep coming back for more, and just look at the smiles of two of our valued customers!
Last Sunday, we had a record result at our Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. Thank you to all the helpers (you know who you are), and particularly to our Fundraising Director Ross Augustine and Gus 'Onion King' Miller.
