President Simon Brook welcomed all members and visitors: Doug Croad (yes, Geoff's brother) from the RC of Toowoomba North, and Sarah and Felicity Cooper (Felicity was our Exchange Student to Finland in 2015).
Since this was designated to be a social meeting, there were no formalities, however, some announcements were made:
Ray Higgs called for applications for Rotary Peace Fellowships are open. You may recall that, in past years, we sponsored Hayley Linthwaite and Jackie Kauli who attended Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Incoming students are hosted at University of Queensland. Know of a suitable candidate? See Ray for more details. Ray is also involved with the Gold Coast Library: they are looking for volunteers to help at various branches. Graeme Isaacson is organizing a Chinese New Year do on Saturday 28th January - see separate article and flyer in the Downloads section on the right.
Des La Rance updated us on the latest relating to the Wheelchair Trust's supply and building of schools: It looks like, for the moment, the Thailand will not proceed, due to them not obtaining government funding over there. On the other hand however, the joint project with Helensvale High School appears to be again fully on the rails.
Secretary Mark Twyford reminded all to read their emails in relation to the inaugural Gold Coast Ramble in March (see separate article). Organized in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Gold Coast, this is our major fundraiser for the year. Now is the time to put your shoulder to the wheel!
