Not your average meeting last week! We met at our Wheelchair Shed - good in particular for new members who may not have familiarized themselves with our signature project, good for old members just to remind us of the huge amount of work that is done by relatively few members. And... we had an unexpected visitor - see further on!
Al Sirovs collected the money, Chris Thurtell was Chairman and Ian Mayberry was Sergeant.
We had apologies from Gerald East, Mario Fairlie, Graeme Isaacson, Peter Morgan (who is over in Perth to "bond" with his latest grandchild), Ray Higgs, Andy Bell, Angus Miller and Paul Seymour.
President Simon Brook welcomed several visitors: Honorary Member George Keily, regular volunteers John Boucher and Leo Uniake, Rosie McIntyre (shortly to be inducted as a member), Jeff Bignell (President, RC of Surfers Paradise), Cam Lepp (guest of Ian Mayberry), and a very special guest, Mayor David Haubert, RC of Dublin (California USA). Staying at the Hilton in Surfers Paradise, David thought "this is ideal - I can walk there..." only to notice from our website that the meeting was to be held at The Shed. That didn't stop him - and, quoting his words: "Your club is an inspiration to all and you are in the highest ranks of inspirers. I will share all news with our club and perhaps we can collaborate on a future project." Meanwhile, Ian Mayberry's guest Cam Lepp indicated that his company, Absolute Building Supplies, may be able to assist us to actualize our vision of a school in Vanuatu.
Jeff Bignell outlined his club's upcoming 14th Charity Race Day Project to be held on Saturday 8th October 2016 at The Dome, Gold Coast Turf Club. Our club participated in the past. Can we get 10 tables @$500.00 a table together?
Wheelchair Trust Chairman Daryl Sanderson expressed his sincere thanks to his regular volunteers, represented last week by John and Leo. He asked for help to unload the container (which had just arrived during the meeting), containing 3000 wheels. (And he got it too! See separate article below and Photos on the right hand side).
