Big call out to Darrell, Geoff, Angus, Paul O'Neill, Paul Seymour, Larry, Andy, Doug and Franz for their sterling efforts at last week’s Small Business Expo in Brisbane, raising funds to go towards the Club’s Youth programs.
Given the early starts, no doubt there were well deserved sleep ins on Friday morning!
No doubt Committees are working hard on finalising their proposed strategic planning goals in anticipation of next week’s Board meeting.
District clubs have voted overwhelmingly in favour of participating in the regionalisation project. We wait to see the first phase of this initiative that will hopefully strengthen Rotary moving forward.
See you at this week’s breakfast meeting when we will hear from Nick and Nicole.
Our newest corporate members, Nicole Bricknell and Nick Cole of Cole Residential will give us a bit of an insight into their background and particularly their hobbies and passions. Both have already been active in our club, assisting with the fundraisers and Nick has written up the Services Committee report from the recent Strategic Planning meeting.
Last Wednesday and Thursday, Surfers Sunrise Rotarians were busy earning some much-needed dollars at the Brisbane Business Expo at the Nissan Arena in Mt Gravatt. Organised by PDG Darrell Brown, our team started mid-afternoon on Wednesday, to be continued from the very early hours of Thursday morning (getting up at around 4 am to be in Mt Gravatt at 06:30 - Yawn!) to the latter part of the afternoon. We assisted with the 'bump-in' e.g. unloading trestles and chairs, setting them up, then directing traffic from 6:30 am on Thursday morning, "rattling the bucket" by running the Gold Coin collection. Then, at the end of the day, we took it all down again, getting the tables and chairs out to the trucks. Hard work, but should be quite rewarding - final figures are not yet available. A big thank you goes to the Expo organiser, Paula Brand, and of course to our team. Most committed for multiple shifts: Darrell Brown, Geoff Croad, Angus Miller, Paul O'Neill, Paul Seymour, Larry Murray, Andy Bell, Doug Lipp and yours truly. So you always thought Geoff Croad to be the most collected, quietly spoken gentleman anyone could imagine, never a loud word... Then you see this rapper type at the Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club, wearing his hat the wrong way round, chatting with a guy wearing dark glasses who is reputed to have designed half the high rise buildings on the Gold Coast, and you think...
Yes, it's him. But no, he's not a rapper, he just put it that way because the sun became too hot...
It's happening again! On Monday, 7th November, we'll again host a Golf Day at the Surfers Paradise Golf Club. It will be a 'Shotgun Start' at 12:30 pm (registration from 11:30 am). Several options:
Corporate Hole Sponsor (includes 4 players, signage and advertising)
4-player Team
Single individual player
Chief organizers Doug Lipp and Charles Thomasson are looking both for players as well as helpers. If you and/or your friends, associates, customers, suppliers want to play. Secure online booking site is now open. Click on this link, or scan the QR Code:
