Gidday Surfers Sunrise Rotarians, fellow Rotarians and friends,

Another week has sped past at breakneck speed. I swear time did not pass this quickly a few years ago.

We had a great casual meeting on Wednesday past, a couple of hours of terrific discussion and fellowship. It is pleasing when a matter raised in my report instigates a response. Last week i wrote about raising money to assist school children who are disadvantaged and due to sad circumstances cannot afford the necessities required for their schooling. This could be anything from a laptop to being able to join their classmates on excursions. etc. Anyway, I received a phone call from Paul Murphy, President of the Rotary Club of Goonellabah, who spoke to me about an initiative of his club, called the 'School Mates Program'. It is led by John Walter, a member of the Goonellabah club. I have asked Franz, who organises guest speakers, to contact John and ask him to speak at our club.

My heart goes out to our fellow Queenslanders who live in the far north of our state. Torrential rain has caused dreadful flooding across the area. So many homes have been destroyed and so many people have been affected that it is heart breaking.  I am in awe of the work done by all of the emergency services deployed to assist in rescuing and making their fellow Australians safe. A special call out to SES as I believe the majority of them are volunteers.

Formal meeting this week with an interesting and capable guest speaker. See you there.

Remember - nothing changes if nothing changes and do as you fear most.

Stories
This coming Wednesday,  12th February: Chanelle Morris
I first heard Chanelle Morris speak at an Innerwheel function and decided immediately to ask her to speak at our club. She is legally blind, yet she can ski, ride a jetski, hike, play golf... She is a motivational speaker with a clear difference! Learn how she trained herself to overcome the obstacles that life put in her way.
Are you joining us at the District Conference? It's at the Sharks.
This year's District 9640 Conference will be held on the last weekend in March, just 7 weeks away. It will be held from Friday 28th - Sunday 30th March 2025, at the Sharks Football Club in Parkwood. This is the annual big Rotary event, and as it is held right here, you could avoid hotel expenses (a lot of locals might just stay at a local hotel - the friendship and fellowship at a conference is great). Thank you for your donation, Andrew and Tara
We had this lovely couple dropping in at the Project Shed today to borrow some bikes for a week whilst they are on holidays here, and donated a generous amount to the Wheelchair Trust in return.  Enjoy your holidays, Andrew and Tara!
Thank you for the plug, Don Glover
Recently, Don Glover (Radio 4CRB 89.3) very kindly gave our wheelchair shed a plug on his show. It's available from the Download's section on the right if you'd like to listen to it. The "Bryan" he refers to is, of course, Bryan Tuesley, one of our "foremen" over at Arundel.

Thank you Don and Bryan for arranging this!
