Oklahoma! - Gold Coast Little Theatre Matinee

The Innerwheel Club of Gold Coast North has booked 20 seats for the members and associate members of Surfers Sunrise Rotary, for the Sunday Matinee of Oklahoma. The show is sold out, so there is no other way to obtain tickets - first come first served! The show starts at 2:00 pm, but we'll organise to go to lunch beforehand (optional though). Organiser Adrian Crowe asks for bookings to be prepaid no later than Friday, 7th November.  Cost per person: $35.00 - payment either in cash to Adrian Crowe, Franz Huber, or pay direct deposit to the Innerwheel club's bank account - Contact Franz or Adrian for details.

Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting is not just the (mostly confirmation) of the incoming board of directors for 2026/27. We will also need to elect a President Elect Nominee 2027/28. But this is also your opportunity to voice any suggestions (and yes, constructive criticism) you may have.

Bike Sale at the Wheelchair Shed

Bike Sale at the Surfers Sunrise Wheelchair Shed - all proceeds go to the Wheelchairs project.

These are from good condition to excellent condition racing bikes that were donated and found to be too good to dismantle for wheelchair components, but instead to be refurbished for sale.

Christmas Breakfast - TRYP by Wyndham Hotel

NOTE; changed starting time.

This year's Christmas Breakfast will be held on the top floor of the TRYP by Wyndham Hotel (where we had the Changeover). Enjoy top views, in salubrious surroundings (linen table cloth etc), with the wonderful Rotary fellowship of Rotarians and their guests. Partners, Associates, Friends of Rotary are all welcome.

Juice, brewed coffee and tea are served on the top floor for the meal. No long speeches, just enjoy the spirit of Christmas. Menu choices are listed on the Trybooking site.

President Paul Seymour - Mid Year update

This is also your chance to ask questions, query procedures, make suggestions, provided (positive) criticism.

Bianca Saikale - Combining the values of Rotary with my own journey

Bianca, who grew up in Brazil, has done not just one, but two Youth Exchanges. She will focus on how Rotary can impact someone’s life when you start young — as she did at 11 years old. "Through Rotary, I’ve had the opportunity to visit over 200 clubs around the world, which has shaped my personal and professional journey" she wrote.

Her goal is to inspire the younger generation to join Rotary, so it continues through generations to come.

Kane Chisholm - new developments in osteoarthritis

Our member Kane Chisholm, who is the principal partner of Kieser Bundall, will present on new evidence-based programs to alleviate osteoarthritis and improve long-term joint health. This is of particular interest to the older generation.

Kenn Orbidalla - growing up in war torn middle east

Kenn is introduced by Fred Hamblen. His mother was has human trafficked to the Middle East before he was 10. His father was killed in a motorcycle crash when he was 16. He became the defacto mother and father for his two younger siblings - the three of them orphans in SE Asia.

Arriving in Australia late 2022, domestic violence was the order of the day until he and his sister were put on the street where Kenn lived in a car yard. Jobs in child care ensued (as he already had 4 years experience doing this) and now he's applying to Engineering school.

Dr Elizabeth Celi

Our member (and President Elect), Dr Elizabeth Celi is a psychologist, working with sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.  Her presentation is titled 'Trauma, the brain, the psychology and keeping on top of our memories'

Rob Thomasson - Rotarian behind the Badge

We recently welcomed Rob Thomasson as he had transferred from another Rotary club to Surfers Sunrise. He is the father of our Treasurer Charles Thomasson and has years (decades?) of experience as a Rotarian.  Get to know Rob better, as he outlines his background, his hobbies and his passions!

Huge range of around 80 bikes in all sizes and purposes, from kid's bikes to adult, off-road and racing bikes. These are from good condition to excellent condition racing bikes that were donated and found to be too good to dismantle for wheelchair components, but instead to be refurbished for sale. Cr Darren Taylor - GC City Council

Darren Taylor is "our" Surfers Paradise City Councillor. He was elected to the City of Gold Coast in March 2020 and serves the people of Division 10.
Prior to his election, Darren was the director of his family-owned and operated business within the construction industry.

Barry Lea: The beginning of our Wheelchairs Project

Our former member Barry Lea was right in the thick of getting our Wheelchairs Project rolling. And it wasn't easy going! Hear Barry reminisce about the trials and tribulations of the mid-nineties to the "big bang" when the first 10 wheelchairs were delivered to Fiji!
